Find a pattern from an older saw that you like (and that fits your hand) and make your own. Use something nice for the handle such as curly maple/cherry or even an exotic such as bubinga or lacewood.

The D8 saw was made in many different lengths and various teeth per inch (tpi). The Disston D8 was made with a skewback blade design. Jan 06, 2012·The old British saws tended to have 1” thick handles while the American saws seemed to lean towards 7/8th, this doesn’t sound like a lot, but for me it makes all the difference. I have an old Drabble and Sanderson saw from about 1835, this has a perfect handle for my hand size and grip.

Mar 22, 2019·All saw makers made some saws with nibs and some without. You’ll see a high end Disston 12 that has a nib, but their highest end D-8s don’t. It’s not indicative of quality or age. Disston was making saws with nibs up until the 1920s or so. It’s really a historical artifact. Henry Disston himself said it’s purely decorative.
